Even though Palm officially ended the production and development of their PDA line, I'm still going to post some of the cool palm OS applications I discovered online.
For me, the best Palm PDA is the LifeDrive. I know a lot of people have criticized the unit for a lot of things -- from its size, weight, and performance. But I like my unit and it has been working fine for almost a year and a half.
One of the things I wanted was watch AVI files, like movies and TV episodes, on my Lifedrive. Unfortunately, the media player that came pre-installed with the Lifedrive could not handle such big files.
I searched the net for a free AVI player that is compatible with my Lifedrive, and I found this freeware.
The Core Pocket Media Player (TCPMP) supports a lot of video formats, like 3GP, ASF, AVI, Matroska, MPEG, OGG, OGM and QuickTime. Once you have the player installed, you can transfer video files (AVI) to the Palm unit, using the Lifedrive Manager. I've used the player to watch shows like Apparitions and Krod Mandoon. It works well, much like watching the video on a mobile phone or an ipod. Unfortunately, a 45 minute show does drain the battery life of the Palm unit.
Still, I have no complaints with the media player. It's free and it doesn't require much technical know-how to set it up in a Palm unit.

I know that the Photoshop 5.0 is outdated (I'm using Photoshop CS4 in the office), but the book costs 60 pesos and it comes with the exercise CD.
I finished the first two lessons on the book, using Photoshop CS4. The book is still informative and helpful for a beginner like me. The exercises are simple and straight to the point. Most of the command instructions are the same and I'm able to play around with the images (thanks to the book).

Sad News for Palm PDA Users
It's official. The Palm Operating System, used by all Palm Handheld Devices, has been discontinued. The company is now focusing on a new OS for its mobile phone products. I guess they have totally given up on the PDA market.
As a loyal Palm user, I am disappointed. Having owned several Palm products (m130, Tungsten 3, TX, and Lifedrive), I experienced the development and maturity of the OS. One of the good things about Palm is the wide variety of software applications available for users. You can install custom programs and applications into your handheld device, to suit your needs and lifestyle.
Among the applications I purchased and installed were an ebook reader, an English-Chinese dictionary, and a Chinese text reader. I can still use these programs until my Lifedrive ceases to function. Until the time comes to replace my handheld unit, I guess I should start saving for a new device (probably a tablet PC or a netbook).
