Working with Colors

Back in college I learned that I suck at color coordination. I was going through our practicum and our group was producing/selling bags. I was the purchasing manager of our practicum group; that meant I had to go to Divisoria and buy cloth to be used as material for the bags.
It was an unnerving experience because I always bought the wrong kind of cloth. Rather than be supportive (and accompany me to buy the cloth in Divisoria), my group mates complained about the materials I bought. They always criticized my tastes and that I do not know how to work with colors. To be honest, I don't know anything about color combination. I don't know how to match a blue outer design with a yellow lining inside. Or why a red zipper does not look cool in a blue colored bag.
Now that I am working in a project that requires me to do some photoshop reworking, I am facing that same kind of pressure. I would prefer to work with black and white images or pictures (at least I only have to deal with varying shades of black). At least I would get a chance to work with basic colors (again) and try to figure out how they match with one another.
What is your world view?
(Got this test from Dex)
You scored as Idealist.
Idealism centers around the belief that we are moving towards something greater. An odd mix of evolutionist and spiritualist, you see the divine within ourselves, waiting to emerge over time. Many religious traditions express how the divine spirit lost its identity, thus creating our world of turmoil, but in time it will find itself and all things will again become one.

Working with GIMPshop
My new project requires me to work around screenshots and images. But since the client cannot afford to buy and install adobe photoshop, I had to make do with print-screen and paint.
Good thing I chatted with Max regarding my problem.
He told me to use GIMPshop. It is a freeware program that simulates the functions of Photoshop. I installed GIMPshop last week and I have been using the basic features of the program.
I still have a lot to learn with this new program, but I'm glad that there is a freeware out in the market which works much like photoshop.

The Slow Movement
Got this wiki link from a friend of mine.
"The Slow movement is a cultural shift towards slowing down life's pace. The Slow movement proposes consciously seizing control of time rather than being dictated by it and finding a balance between using time-saving technology and taking the time to enjoy a walk or a meal with others. Proponents believe that while technology can speed up working, eating, dating, etc. the most important things in life should not be rushed."
I guess this is the answer (or is it the counter-answer) to our fast-paced urban life. Most of the stress in my life comes from meeting deadlines and budgeting my time into small pieces so I can multi-task and accomplish a certain number of tasks.
Personally, the decision to take things slow (or fast) is one's personal choice. There are certain things that should be taken slow, and other things should be done fast. Just don't mix these things up and your okay.

Dining at Sarong Bali
After a long work day, Jen and I decided to try out this Indonesian restaurant along Wilson Street in San Juan. We passed through this restaurant a couple of times before and thought it was a grill restaurant with an Indonesian theme. Apparently Sarong Bali servers more than just grilled or Indonesian food.

The restaurant has a bar and a dining hall which can accommodate up to two hundred people. We felt like we stepped into an authentic Indonesia restaurant. The design of the place was excellent. It had this exotic ambiance (except for the pop music being played in the background).

So we started ordering some food. We first got a hot and spicy seafood soup. It had tuna, shrimp, and bits of chili floating around. We thought we could handle the heat, but the soup was really super spicy (and hot).
We also ordered something from the bar called "Sunburn". It was rum mixed with cranberry juice and other fruits. But it tasted a lot like cough syrup. At least it help neutralize the spiciness of the soup.

After the soup came our dinner. Jen got herself some grilled fish and rice. The fish came with strips of cucumber and tomatoes, which were good to counter the spiciness of the sauce.

I ordered rice with some strips of chicken. I was happy with the presentation of the food and the size of the order. The chicken was cooked in coconut milk and it tasted really delicious.

After a wonderful dinner, Jen and I decided that we'll come back to Sarong Bali again . Hopefully we'll get to try the other dishes like goat's meat and the curry vegetables with pumpkin sauce.
