The first thing I noticed is that the movie (like its predecessors) is displayed with a bluish taint or shading, casting a dark goth-like ambiance. Even the sun looks bluish and a lot darker than the usual yellow ball of light.
For me, it was a good tactic to make this third movie a prequel. You don't have to understand or know what happened in the first two movies to understand the third one. The movie was basically set during the medieval dark ages, where vampires still ruled over humans and made slaves of werewolves.
Here the vamps are the enemies and the lycans (werewolves) are the heroes. The movie tackles the lycans' liberation, as well as the usual blood and gore. You'd tend to sympathize more with the lycans' plight -- their suffering and abuse from the vampire lords.
I was disappointed that Kate Beckinsale didn't appear in the movie (although she narrated the intro and ending of the movie). Instead we have this Selene-like clone named Sonia, who was Viktor's favorite daughter. The movie has its mix of dark romantic tradegy, impressive CGI fight scenes, and the usual goth horror you'd expect in a vampire flick.

the woman wasn't so bad. i would have preferred for vampires to show some power at the least. in the movie they seemed weak and fragile compared to the lycans
