In Denial

I chatted with a former colleague a few hours ago. It seems that everyone in the office is trying to ignore the elephant in the room, particularly senior management.

Ever since the US got into recession, my former employer has been trying to assure everyone that his company is stable and doing okay. Despite all his assurances, people are skeptical. He probably thinks his employees are idiots who can't see the signs around them.

I have been hearing rumors and stories of the company losing clients and projects because of the recent economic turmoil. People at work have also noticed the belt tightening measures and the silent retrenchment going on.

But officially, business is still doing well and everything is okay. Management is in denial, the employees are pretending to accept management's dictates.

It's a no win situation.
