College Reunion

Despite my hectic Saturday schedule, I managed to meet up with some old friends back in college. I used to hang out with these guys from the university publication. All of us were writers and artists in the school's literary magazine.

Back in those days, our little group was made up of activists, dreamers, and idealists who wanted to change the world (or country). It was nice to see that most of us still held on to the dream, despite the years and challenges of the real world.

While there were a few who have made compromises along the way, becoming "corporate sell-outs" as a friend remarked. I think most have kept the dream alive. Many of them have gone into teaching, trying to change the world by inspiring the younger generation. Others are working in various NGOs and non-profit organizations, focusing their energies on the causes they believed in. And there are those who strive to live their lives according to the convictions and ideals they learned back in college.

Being with them for one night made me remember who we were back then. It was both a happy and sad journey through memory lane. Even though we have gone our separate ways, living our own lives, we still have a common past that binds us as a group and as friends.
